The DDPS is divided into nine administrative units that report directly to the head of the DDPS: the Defence Group, the State Secretariat for Security Policy, the General Secretariat, the Federal Intelligence Service, the Federal Office for Defence Procurement (armasuisse), the Federal Office of Topography (swisstopo), the Federal Office for Civil Protection, the Federal Office for Sport and the Federal Office for Cyber Security.

The Armed Forces Attorney General's Office is also an administrative unit of the DDPS. It is the service provider for military justice and creates the conditions for the competent fulfilment of the legal mandate by the military prosecuting authorities and military courts of all instances, which are independent in every respect of the department's management and administration as well as the army command.

armasuisse is the Competence Center for Procurement, Technology and Real Estate within the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS). The Chief of Armament is directly responsible to the Head of Department.
