armasuisse’s main research areas 2025 – 2028 are known

armasuisse’s research creates the basis for a deeper understanding of those technologies which are relevant for the security of Switzerland. This research concept from armasuisse Science and Technology (S+T) defines the main interests for the period 2025 – 2028. These are based on the identified technological megatrends and the needs of the security policy players of the DDPS, in particular the Armed Forces.

In brief

armasuisse’s research forms the basis for supporting the skills-oriented development of the Armed Forces, for promoting technology-driven innovations and for supporting system evaluations of procurement by armasuisse. It makes a significant contribution to the long-lasting security and independence of Switzerland.

The complexity of modern conflicts represents a major challenge for the further development of the security forces as well as for the planning, procurement and operation of intervention resources. Increasingly rapid technological developments, the uses of civilian technologies in a military context and hybrid warfare are just a few of the many challenges. Technical and scientific skills play a key role here. armasuisse S+T’s research thus creates the basis for a deeper understanding of these security-relevant technologies. The Armed Forces, the Federal Intelligence Service and the National Cyber Security Centre can, for example, be supported with sound and independent expertise. The research findings will be incorporated both in the long-term development of the Armed Forces as well as in the evaluation of systems during procurement by armasuisse. Good technical and scientific expertise also forms the basis for technology-driven innovations in the Armed Forces and in the DDPS. The research thus makes a significant contribution to the long-lasting security and independence of Switzerland.

The main research areas 2025 – 2028

This long-term research plan 2025 – 2028 highlights the contents of the main areas of research of armasuisse. To this end, four coordinated research focal points, each with two to three associated priority topics, have been defined. «Technology Foresight[A1] » has been defined as the first focal point, to identify disruptive technological developments and to assess their consequences in a security political context. The focus «Technologies for operational capabilities[A2] » in selected regions also highlights the influence of technological development on the operational skills of security forces. The «integration of technologies into platforms» is a further focus which uses demonstrators to highlight the technological potential for applications. This also creates a bridge to technology-driven innovations. The «cross-cutting issues[A3] » include research aspects which are relevant for a holistic assessment of the other main research interests.

The long-term research plan 2025 – 2028 of armasuisse S+T is available in German and French.
