In brief
The Cyber-Defence Campus (CYD Campus) celebrated its fifth anniversary with a special recognition of excellence in cyber defence. Since its inception, the CYD Campus has strengthened the link between academia, industry and government and is committed to fostering innovation and cutting-edge technological research.
In an age of ever-increasing cyber threats, the Cyber-Defence Campus has taken on a central role in tackling these challenges. Since its establishment in 2019, the CYD Campus has served as a link between the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS), industry and academia. Its aim is to identify developments in the cyber domain at an early stage and to promote innovative solutions.
This unique interface between science and the federal government enables students and researchers to make a practical and innovative contribution to Switzerland's cyber security and gain valuable experience in the process. The CYD Campus not only strengthens the federal government's cyber capabilities, but also serves as a talent pool for Switzerland's next generation of cyber experts.
On 4 December, Dr. Vincent Lenders, founder and director of CYD Campus, gave a review of the last five years and an outlook on future challenges. Dr David Gugelmann (founder and Co-CEO of Exeon Analytics), Prof. Dr. Shweta Shinde (Professor at ETH Zurich) and Prof. Dr. Mathias Payer (Professor at EPFL) presented their views on current and future cyber threats from the perspective of industry and science.
The following award winners were honoured at the ceremony:
- Vladyslav Zubkov (ETH Zurich) for his master's thesis on ‹Cross-sectional Analysis of the Bluetooth Stack of Modern Cars›.
- Dr Dina Mahmoud (EPFL) for her doctoral thesis on ‹Electrical-Level Fault-Injection Attacks on FPGA-based Systems›.
- Dr Andrei Kucharavy (EPFL) for his postdoc on ‹Evolutionary Dynamics for Improved GAN Detection›.
