Testing

Along with research and innovation, testing is the third leg of armasuisse Science and Technology. This comprises all sorts of tasks related to testing aircraft, weapons and munitions, carrying out tests with explosive materials and monitoring munitions. The aim is to ensure systems function safely across the entire lifecycle.

Flight Test Center

Diamond DA42
The Flight Test Center mainly works for the airspace domain of operation. Aircraft, equipment and systems are checked in flight to ensure they are fit to fly, perform properly and are functioning. The tests are carried out by specialist teams of test pilots, flight trial engineers, test flight operators and test flight infrastructure staff.

Weapon Test Center

The models are seated in an armored vehicle with protective equipment.
The same applies for ground systems: weapons systems are checked to ensure they function safely, for the protection of the Armed Forces. Experts at the Weapon Test Center assess the effectiveness of ballistic and explosive protection and the suitability of weapons systems for deployment. Trials and technical investigations are carried out using the latest testing and measurement technology.

Explosive Materials and Ammunition Monitoring

Shot in the delaboration chamber, a remote controlled pincer opens an explosive cartridge
The staff working in Explosive Materials and Ammunition Monitoring boast unique knowledge of all possible Swiss military explosives. They can pass judgement on the expected life and ageing characteristics of munitions and their impact on people, animals and the environment. Their work makes a major contribution to the safety of munitions in the Swiss Armed Forces.
