Training at armasuisse

Whether you work in an office or a laboratory, armasuisse offers you attractive career entry opportunities. We train commercial assistants, computer scientists, mediamaticians and physics laboratory assistants and offer interesting apprenticeships each year. You can also find the right apprenticeship with us!

Commercial assistant VET

Do you enjoy being in contact with other people and working on a computer? armasuisse offers commercial training in the E profile (extended basic training) or in the M profile (with vocational baccalaureate).

 

Structure: 3 years, change of department usually every six months

Vocational school: WKS in Bern

E profile:

  • Secondary school with good performance or secondary modern school and preparatory 10th school year with very good performance in the core subjects (German, French, English, Mathematics)
  • Good oral and written expression
  • Flair for numbers and computer work
  • Proficient in touch-typing or ready to learn it at the start of the training
  • Independent method of working and interest in working in close contact with people, as well as administrative and organisational tasks

M profile:

  • Secondary school with very good performance in the core subjects (German, French, English, Mathematics)
  • Good oral and written expression
  • Flair for numbers and computer work
  • Proficient in touch-typing or ready to learn it at the start of the training
  • Independent method of working and interest in working in close contact with people, as well as administrative and organisational tasks

You work mainly in the office and are often on the computer or the phone. Your main activities include writing mails and letters, information processing and interaction with customers and suppliers.  Depending on the area of activity, your tasks can be very varied. Precisely for this reason, it is important for us that you gain an insight into various different specialist areas, such as Purchasing or HR, and that during your training at armasuisse you get to know the whole range of possible deployment areas. You certainly won’t be bored!

Commercial assistant VET, training and sports

Sports career or vocational training? Thanks to the offer of «Commercial training and sports» you no longer have to decide on one or the other. armasuisse offers young athletes a flexible solution to reconcile training and competitive sports.

This training contains the same topics as a normal commercial training in the E profile, but lasts 4 years instead of 3. Thanks to this extension, around 25% of your working time is available for sports activities (training, competitions, etc.) but also for regeneration.

armasuisse has been recognised by Swiss Olympic as a performance sports-friendly training company.

Vocational school: Training Centre for Economics and Services (bwd) in Bern

E profile:

  • Secondary school with good performance or secondary modern school and preparatory 10th school year with very good performance in the core subjects (German, French, English, Mathematics)
  • Good oral and written expression
  • Flair for numbers and computer work
  • Proficient in touch-typing or ready to learn it at the start of the training
  • Independent method of working and interest in working in close contact with people, as well as administrative and organisational tasks

In order to be able to complete a commercial and sport apprenticeship, you will have to apply for a place in the sports class at the bwd vocational school in Bern. The acceptance criteria are:

  • Good academic performance
  • Good assessment of working and learning behaviour
  • Owner of a Swiss Olympic Talent Card and/or member of a regional or national squad

You work mainly in the office and are often on the computer or the phone. Computer scientist VET

Computer, applications, etc. are just your thing? Then a computer scientist VET would be exactly the right thing for you. In your training with us, you work in a type of learning workshop together with around 8 apprentices on your own, exciting and challenging projects in which you are competently supervised and supported by two vocational trainers.

 

Structure: 4 years, base year in the Vocational Training Centre Berufsbildungscenter Bern (Bbc)

Vocational school: Commercial and Industrial Training College (gibb) in Bern

  • Completed compulsory school (special secondary or secondary school)
  • Very good performance in the subjects Mathematics, Physics and English
  • Good assessment of working and learning behaviour
  • Quick grasp of facts
  • Diligent method of working
  • High degree of independence and reliability

As a computer scientist in the specialist area application development, you often work together in a team with other specialists. You assess a problem, develop potential solutions and demonstrate their advantages and disadvantages. You then need to implement or programme the optimum solution and thoroughly test it before putting it into effect.

You programme software applications, test them and adapt them as necessary. You train users to utilise the new software and document solutions and modifications.

As a computer scientist in the specialist area platform development, you install hardware and software, expand device configurations and train users. Data security and data protection play an ever increasing role here.

You also plan, implement and administrate the ICT networks (LAN, WLAN) and provide workplaces by installing hardware and software. You operate various servers and monitor them so that the users can work without interruption. You’re also responsible for the back-up and ensure that no data is lost. You make sure that information is protected and can be safely distributed.

Mediamatician VET

Are you full of creative ideas and enjoy communication? From the communications department to HR marketing: In your training at armasuisse, you have the option of completing your training as a mediamatician VET in completely different topic areas.

 

Structure: 4 years, base year in the Vocational Training Centre Berufsbildungscenter Bern (Bbc)

Vocational school: Vocational Training Centre in Biel (BBZ)

  • Completed compulsory school (special secondary or secondary school)
  • Very good performance in the core subjects (German, French, English, Mathematics)
  • Flair for design and IT applications
  • Good assessment of working and learning behaviour
  • Quick grasp of facts and diligent work ethic
  • High degree of independence and reliability

As a mediamatician, you take on diverse and exciting tasks covering all aspects of corporate communications. You design and produce both analogue and digital contents. To this end, you develop draft designs, create graphical elements, manage websites and are out on the road with a camera and/or video equipment.

As a mediamatician, you work in the development and implementation of communication measures, design both analogue and digital products and control various different communications activities.

In addition, as a mediamatician, you manage your own projects on a small scale. In the process, you clarify customer needs, set up the project planning and continuously evaluate project progress.

Physics laboratory assistant VET

Do you enjoy doing experiments and are interested in technology? Then a training as a physics laboratory assistant at the external site in Thun in the competence sector Science and Technology is exactly the right thing for you.

 

Structure: 4 years, 1 apprenticeship year at RUAG, followed by internships in various departments at armasuisse Science and Technology

Vocational school: TBZ in Zurich

  • Secondary school with good performance, particularly in the scientific and mathematical subjects
  • Technical and scientific understanding
  • Logical thinking
  • Exact method of working and good observational skills
  • Patience and perseverance
  • Independence and reliability

You test various technical systems using modern electronic measuring equipment. These might come from the areas of high frequency technology, sensor technology, laser technology or communications. Together with scientists, you design, optimise and plan methods of analysis and experimental layouts. You learn how to prepare tests, perform them in the laboratory or outdoors as well as how to prepare, document and interpret the measurement results. You can really get to grips with the work. Milling, filing and sawing are exactly your thing.

Apply with your complete application file for one of our advertised apprenticeships. Your application file contains a cover letter, your CV as well as school reports and diplomas. We’re looking forward to receiving your application!

The received files will be reviewed by the Head of Basic Vocational Training. We match your qualifications with our requirements for filling the apprenticeship positions. After viewing the files, we’ll let you know if the process will continue for you.
