Unique Test Infrastructure

Our measuring and testing facilities are available to national and international customers for system and component testing. All facilities have state-of-the-art equipment, and our highly qualified personnel ensure professional testing.

Vorbereitung Verifikationsschiessen

Anechoic Chamber

The measurement of radar signatures and antenna parameters takes place here in an environment that is as controlled and with as little interference as possible. The results are used to create specifications or simulations.

Millimetre Wave Hall

GMTF im Tarnkit

A signature describes how the waves emitted by the radar are dispersed on an object. We offer signature measurements on camouflaged and non-camouflaged, large and heavy objects in the millimetre wave hall.

Antenna Measuring Station

Measuring site for antenna measurements in the VHF/UHF frequency range with hub, measuring tower and measuring shack. This facility is suitable for determining antenna diagrams and characterising location properties.

HPE Laboratory

A piranha stands in a measuring field outdoors

Facility for testing immunity to pulsed electromagnetic sources such as nuclear-induced electromagnetic pulses, lightning or intended interference signals (high-power electromagnetics [HPE]).

Outdoor Firing Range 450 m

The longest-running firing range extends over 450 m and is cleared for most ammunition types imported into Switzerland, but is usually only used if none of the underground facilities can be used.

Special Firing Range 200 m

In the 200 m firing range it is possible to use smaller guided missiles or ammunition with warheads; Furthermore, the 200 m firing range is designed to fire at explosive targets or to activate smaller explosions.

Competence Centre for Ammunition/Explosives

Recording in the delaboration chamber, a pair of pliers opens an explosive cartridge

Safe defusing (disassembly) of ammunition and explosives takes place at the facility in Thierachern. Facilities for testing components as well as for simulating weapon and ammunition processes are the focal point of the infrastructure.

Assessment of Storage Safety

Determining the thermal stability of explosives is an essential part in assessing storage safety. Our laboratory features state-of-the-art infrastructure, including a heat flow calorimeter.

EW Laboratory

We offer our customers a wide range of services in the field of electronic warfare (EW). The EW laboratory in Thun has extensive technical infrastructure.

Field Tests

Thanks to mobile instruments, electronic warfare measurements can also be carried out on the test site in Thun or in the field in the immediate vicinity of the system to be tested.

Komsys Laboratory

This facility for evaluating the performance of communications systems can be used for laboratory and field measurements and for carrying out simulations and emulations. It is suitable for assessing military radio networks and complete communications systems.

NIR Competence Centre

Messaufbau im Labor

Measurement infrastructure for army electromagnetic emission systems with regard to their legal conformity. Software is also available here for situation-specific electromagnetic fields simulations.

Outdoor Firing Range 50 m

The smaller firing range is designed for small calibre and non-lethal weapons (NLW) and has two 50 m cable pulleys, a mobile bullet trap and a covered sand backstop.

Underground Firing Range (500, 200, 40 and 30 m)

The noise protection structures in Thun (LSBT) have four underground systems, of which the two long firing ranges were built specifically for exterior, interior and end ballistics. They are cleared for all tube-shot inert ammunition types up to and including 155 mm calibre (artillery).

Ageing and Stability Assessments

Explosives (propellants, pyrotechnics) are analysed in the laboratories, where ageing and stability assessments are performed and safety and environmental aspects are assessed.

Mechanical Properties

Characterising the mechanical properties of explosives has become more important. To do this, we use modern measuring instruments for dynamic-mechanical analyses as well as a material tester.
