CEO of European Defence Agency to make a working visit to Chief of Armament

On 10 and 11 April 2018, Jorge Domecq, CEO of the European Defence Agency (EDA) will pay a visit to Chief of Armament Martin Sonderegger in Bern, Switzerland. The focus of this working visit will be on current developments in European defence policy and cooperation between the EDA and Switzerland.

At the invitation of the Chief of Armament, EDA CEO Jorge Domecq will meet in Bern with representatives of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sports and the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, as well as key figures from the business and research communities.

The primary focus of the talks will be on relations between the European Defence Agency and Switzerland, with a particular emphasis on the current state of affairs and the expectations of both sides. The CEO of the EDA will give a keynote speech, which will also be attended by representatives from the business and research communities. In this speech he will address developments in European security and defence policy and the resulting challenges and opportunities for Switzerland.

A non-legally binding framework agreement has been in place between Switzerland and the EDA since March 2012. This agreement sets out areas where cooperation is possible in research and development, procurement and maintenance. The last meeting between the Chief of Armament and the CEO of the EDA was held on 23 November 2017 during the EDA's annual conference in Brussels.
