The reduction and modernisation of the armed forces leads to superfluous defence and general military equipment. For armasuisse the sale of obsolete equipment has first priority. If a sale is not possible, the material is recycled.

The sale or recycling is usually carried out in cooperation with industrial partners. The sale of defence equipment is subject to the Federal Law on War Material.
