Ammunition Surveillance

Operational readiness and safety of Swiss ammunition

Aging of ammunition may not only lead to losses in performance during its application but also to functional failure and to an increased safety risk. We make sure that the ammunition for the Swiss Armed Forces and civilian users meets the safety requirements during its entire life cycle. It is important to clearly identify the risks and to define anticipatory measures. We know the characteristic aging behaviour of safety and function-relevant ammunition components and define appropriate test methods, test intervals and acceptance limits. Various tests and trials provide us with the data needed to evaluate stored ammunition with respect to transportability, performance, functional reliability and manipulation safety.
