In July 2008 the National Armament Director, Mr Jakob Baumann, initiated a reorganization of armasuisse. This reconstruction is progressing according to schedule. After the new corporate management of armasuisse had been nominated in October 2008, the Heads of Specialised Services could be appointed at the next lower hierarchical level in April 2009.
By selecting the Heads of Specialized Services, the next - and last - management level was completed. The Heads of Specialized Services answer directly to the Heads of Competence Sectors. The hierarchical level of business unit, in which so far several Specialized Services were concentrated, was dissolved. This flatter management hierarchy aims at a flexible, efficient organization, which is better geared to the requirements of the armed forces. The Heads of Specialized Services assumed their new function on 1 April 2009.
Within the Staff Corporate Management, the Competence Sector Central Services, armasuisse Real Estate and the Federal Office of Topography, the Heads of Specialized Services did not change.
In addition, the Deputy Heads of Competence Sectors, the Heads Resource Management and the Assistants of the Heads of Competence Sectors were nominated.

What are the next steps?
By filling the vacancies a big step toward armasuisse 2010 has been made. Until the end of the year the following milestones, among others, are scheduled:
• Adjustment of structures down to the employee level
• Adaptation of processes to the armasuisse process model
• Elaboration of implementation planning based on the armasuisse 2010 - 2014 strategy
